The Duke Nukem 3D shooter still attracts gamers and various enthusiasts. Recently, a modder under the nickname postmemetic presented an update for his unofficial remaster, which adds path tracing to the game.
Now, the Duke Nukem 3D RTX remaster has full voxel support. The developer published a gameplay demonstration and compared the graphics with the original version of the shooter:
In addition, postmemetic focused on optimizing his project – he did extensive work to reduce the CPU load on levels with abundant geometry (E1L4, E2L8). According to the modder, in some cases, frame time was reduced by 80%.
The "Duke-RT" project is publicly available on the modder's GitHub "postmemetic". The installation and launch process has been improved – the developer implemented "more efficient Duke3d detection" and an auxiliary function for loading voxels.
The modder is already aware of the problem with the display of some voxel enemies and the "stuttering" at the beginning of the first level.
