Switch 2 Sales Plummet in Japan After Console Price Hike
In the week from May 25 to May 31, only 31,751 units were sold, whereas the previous week's sales were 247,880 units.
Sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan have sharply declined following the recent price increase for the console.
The price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan took effect on May 25. The console's price rose from approximately 50,000 to 60,000 yen, which immediately impacted demand. The sales drop was more than sevenfold compared to the previous week.
The decline affected not only the new generation of the system. The original Nintendo Switch also showed a significant drop: only 229 consoles were sold during the reporting period, compared to 2,731 units the previous week.
Recall that the Nintendo Switch 2 was released exactly one year ago. Despite the temporary cooling of sales, fans of the company are expecting new announcements very soon. According to rumors, a new Nintendo Direct presentation may take place next week, where Nintendo will unveil projects that will become key releases for the platform in the coming years.
