1666: Amsterdam from the creator of the original Assassin's Creed is available for free on Steam and EGS

Patrice Désilets presented the long-awaited project he had been working on since 2010 after leaving Ubisoft.

Game designer Patrice Désilets, one of the creators of the first Assassin's Creed games, unveiled the dark historical action game with mystical elements, 1666: Amsterdam. Along with the announcement, a free introductory prologue lasting about 30 minutes became available on Steam and Epic Games Store.

The game is set in Amsterdam in 1666. Players must confront ancient entities known as the Primordials. The main character, Noa Brooklyn, a Gatherer, must regain her power and restore balance to the city ravaged by plague.

During the day, players explore the city, and at night, they fight the Primordials, who reveal their true form under the moonlight. Gameplay includes vertical exploration, acrobatics, tactical use of magic, and the ability to switch between Noa, who wields dark sorcery, and her familiar — a talking cat named Aaron.

The idea for 1666: Amsterdam originated with Désilets after he left Ubisoft in 2010. In 2011, he joined THQ Montreal and led the project's development. In 2013, Ubisoft acquired the studio and froze the game, after which Désilets spent several years litigating for the rights to the project. After regaining them, he continued work at his own studio, Panache Digital Games, while also working on Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.

The full launch of the game in early access on PC is scheduled for late 2026.
