Netflix has released the first official still and a short video on YouTube featuring the lead actor in the series "Scooby-Doo: The Beginning." For the first time in the franchise's 57-year history, the role of Scooby-Doo is played by a real Great Dane puppy, not a computer model.
"This is a modern reinterpretation of the story of the iconic team of teenage detectives and their very special dog. Spending their last vacation at summer camp, longtime friends Shaggy and Daphne find themselves embroiled in a terrifying mystery involving a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a mystical murder. Teaming up with the pragmatic local know-it-all Velma and the strange but devilishly attractive newcomer Freddie, they take on a case that draws each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to reveal all their innermost secrets."
The main roles will be played by Mckenna Grace (Daphne Blake), Tanner Hegen (Shaggy Rogers), Abby Ryder Fortson (Velma Dinkley), and Maxwell Jenkins (Fred Jones). Paul Walter Hauser, a laureate of awards, has also joined the cast, his role not yet disclosed.
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are the showrunners of the project. Toby Haynes ("Andor", "Sherlock") directed the first episode and served as executive producer.
Filming of the series is taking place in Atlanta (USA), and the premiere is scheduled for 2027.
