Hangar 13 Prepares Major Changes for the Mafia Series - Hints of Multiplayer Found
After the announcement of Mafia: The Old Country - Man of Honor, the first hints of the next game in the series have emerged.
According to a job posting from Hangar 13, the studio is working on a new project in the Mafia universe, which may feature full-fledged multiplayer elements.
The source of this information is a job advertisement for a Lead VFX Artist. Among the requirements for the candidate is an understanding of technical tasks related to creating effects for online modes and multiplayer gameplay. This may indicate that the developers want to go beyond the traditional single-player formula of the series.
It is not yet known how significant a role multiplayer will play. Observers suggest that Hangar 13 may be inspired by the success of GTA Online and transfer similar mechanics to a historical gangster setting.
According to assumptions, players will be able to develop their own criminal empire in an open world, carry out large heists with friends, and confront other gangs.
However, Hangar 13 is not going to abandon the story component. The new game is being created on Unreal Engine 5, and a well-developed story remains one of the main priorities.
