"Jobs has two movies, but Gaben has none": Gamers demand a biopic about Gabe Newell

A discussion went viral on Reddit in the Valve subreddit. A user with the nickname Inevitable_Bid5540 wondered why there have been numerous documentary projects and two major Hollywood films about Apple founder Steve Jobs, while Gabe Newell, who made a comparable revolution in digital distribution and the gaming industry, has yet to receive his own biopic.

Some participants in the discussion agreed with the author. In their opinion, the story of Valve's founding, the risky development of Half-Life, the subsequent development of Steam, the struggle for platform independence, and legal conflicts with publishers could form the basis of a film in the spirit of David Fincher's "The Social Network."

However, at the same time, users point out that Gabe, although he revolutionized the gaming industry, is practically unknown outside of it. Unlike the eccentric and conflict-prone Jobs, whose personal life perfectly sold movie tickets, Newell has a reputation as a calm and private person. He simply enjoys superyachts, collects rare knives, and launches sales on Steam — the story of such a character would be difficult to sell to a mass audience.
