Although the mobile version of Max Payne 2001 appeared on smartphones back in 2012, since approximately late 2021 – with the release of Android 12 – users who bought the game on Google Play began to massively lose access to it due to incompatibility with new OS versions. Since then, the cult project has remained unavailable to a huge number of owners of modern smartphones.
Many players were sure that Rockstar had completely abandoned the project and would soon completely remove it from stores. However, a fresh update from Grove Street Games contains general bug fixes and performance improvements that allow the game to run on any current Android device.
