Some gamers actively criticize developers for using AI technologies, but major industry players, such as Epic Games, are not afraid and openly declare the use of such technologies in their work.
Epic Games recently confirmed that it uses generative artificial intelligence. In the company's published video "How concept art is created at Epic Games," it is clearly shown how this works: a specialist drew a character, then activated the "GenMedia" tool and entered a text query to process the result of the work.
In this case, he wrote "Clean up the rendering of this Fortnite character. Don't change the design, only the rendering," and after that, the system processed his image.
Poncle — the creator of the game Vampire Survivors, with which Fortnite had a planned collab, reacted and announced the freezing of the project:
Following today's news about Epic's use of generative AI [GenAI] to create all sorts of game assets, including Fortnite characters, we are currently "re-evaluating" our collaboration with Fortnite. We will inform you if there are any changes.
Poncle's decision caused a mixed reaction among players: some believe that it is very foolish to cancel a collab due to AI tools, while sometimes users support the developer.
