During the Unreal Fest conference in Chicago, Epic Games presented the integration of popular AI models, such as Claude and Gemini, into Unreal Engine 5.8, as well as into the upcoming Unreal Engine 6. Thanks to the MCP server, developers will be able to connect not only these solutions but also any other compatible models of their choice.

The announcement caused a mixed reaction among the gaming community. Many fear that the widespread adoption of generative AI will lead to a large number of low-quality projects, the so-called “AI slop.” However, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney believes that such concerns are not new to the industry.

In an interview with IGN, he compared “AI slop” to “asset flips” — games created with minimal effort using ready-made assets. According to Sweeney, such projects have always existed and will continue to appear, but in the hands of professional teams, artificial intelligence can significantly accelerate development.

The gaming industry has always been driven forward by great games created by talented teams. The head of Epic emphasized that the company deliberately did not create its own language model. Instead, the developers created a universal integration system that allows the use of any modern AI tools. According to him, the market is developing so rapidly that new opportunities appear literally every few weeks, so Epic preferred to give users freedom of choice.
