"Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is?": Sony to continue betting on live-service games despite failures
Earlier, it became known about massive layoffs at Bungie. The studio's management explained the decision by the fact that Destiny 2 had shown far from convincing numbers in reports in recent years.
Sony Interactive Entertainment President Hideaki Nishino confirmed that the company does not intend to abandon the development of live-service games, despite the failures of recent projects, including Concord. According to him, such games remain an important direction for PlayStation, as they are able to attract a wide audience worldwide.
Nishino noted that Sony plans not only to release new service projects but also to support existing games in the long term. This year, the company also expects to release MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
The head of SIE for the first time clearly outlined the strategy for platform game releases. According to him, single-player exclusives developed in-house will still be primarily focused on PlayStation, while live-service projects are planned to be released simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and PC to ensure the widest possible audience.
