Xbox Reconsiders Game Pass Strategy. Fewer Games? - Rumor
According to rumors from the First Playable exhibition, Microsoft has suddenly halted negotiations with studios about adding games to Xbox Game Pass.
The Xbox division may have re-evaluated its Xbox Game Pass strategy after years of investment in the service. Previously, the company actively concluded deals with publishers and studios, and the situation may have changed.
The topic was discussed on The Business of Video Games podcast, co-hosted by Arrowhead Studios head Shams Jorjani. According to Fernando Rizo of Kaboodle Games, he heard from industry representatives at the First Playable exhibition in Florence that negotiations with Microsoft regarding Xbox Game Pass have effectively stopped.
I spoke to many people in the industry, and everyone said the same thing. Many studios were in advanced stages of Game Pass negotiations. Agreements hadn't been signed yet, but discussions were very deep. Suddenly, everything was halted.
He clarified that he doesn't believe Microsoft is going to abandon the service.
I don't think Game Pass is ending. My feeling is that the new leadership is just trying to get things in order. We signed a Game Pass agreement earlier this year, and I have a feeling we might have been among the last.
Microsoft has not officially confirmed this information. Sources refer to industry discussions, so the information should be treated with caution.
