The game will be released on January 15, 2027, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Masayoshi Yokoyama, head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, shared new details about the action-adventure game Stranger Than Heaven. According to him, during development, the game's plot grew significantly and turned out to be much larger than originally planned.

In a new interview with Media, Yokoyama admitted that the team didn't even conduct precise measurements of the project's overall scope, but they are confident that the game turned out to be quite large. This is especially true for the main storyline, which continued to expand as the game was created.

At the same time, the developer noted that in terms of map size, Stranger Than Heaven is comparable to the Yakuza series. Each historical era received its own unique map without artificial scaling up or down. The game will feature more buildings with explorable interiors, but due to the historical setting, there are no modern skyscrapers, so the overall scale of the world remains roughly at the level of previous studio projects.

Despite similar location sizes, Yokoyama emphasized that Stranger Than Heaven is an entirely new intellectual property, unrelated to Yakuza. The project received a completely different user interface, a new control system, and revamped combat mechanics. The structure of side content will also change: additional stories will develop differently than fans of the series are used to, and will likely be more serious in tone.

Play Spots will also return, but their number will be reduced. According to Yokoyama, this is due to the game's historical setting — unlike Yakuza, there are no numerous corporate collaborations here that previously served as the basis for such entertainment.

The main character will be Makoto Daito, who, after his mother's death, secretly boards a ship bound for Japan. During the journey, he meets Orpheus, played by rapper Snoop Dogg, and Yu Shinze. Later, the characters will be united by the music business, which will become an important part of the story.
