Starbreeze Studios handed over the development of Payday 2 to the modder-developer team Sidetrack Games. In late June, they unveiled a major technical update for the co-op shooter.

The game engine received the Diesel 3.0 update. The game transitioned to a 64-bit version and uses DirectX 11 rendering, as well as:

  • Loading times on SSDs will be faster
  • The client "slimmed down" – the game will now take up about 32 GB
  • Rewrote the implementation of Epic Online Services (for cross-play and matchmaking functionality)
  • The "Modern CPU Support" launch option is no longer needed
  • Lobby codes have been shortened to 6 characters
  • Fixed a bug where a player could unfairly be flagged as a "cheater"
  • Native support for PlayStation 4 gamepads has been added
  • Various bugs have been fixed, including issues with mask display for Joy and Jacket characters
  • Balance adjustments were made to weapons, for example, the China Puff 40mm Grenade Launcher now deals slightly more damage.

The "update 247" for Payday 2 is currently in open beta. To participate, go to the game's properties in Steam and select the "open_beta Diesel 3.0 Beta" option in the beta versions section.
