The listing was soon removed.

Information has appeared online about a possible new game in the Metroid series, which has not yet been officially announced by Nintendo. According to Universo Nintendo, a listing for a game titled Metroid Ravenous briefly appeared in the database of Brazil's Ministry of Justice and Public Security.

The listing was soon removed, but the editor of Universo Nintendo managed to take a screenshot of the page. According to the published information, the project card contained almost no details – only the production year 2026 was indicated.

If the leak turns out to be authentic, it is unlikely to be another full-fledged 3D installment of the Metroid Prime series. Given how long Metroid Prime 4's development took, a more probable option is either an expansion to that game or an entirely new 2D side-scrolling project.

The most plausible scenario is a continuation of the direction started by Metroid Dread, which was released five years ago and received high critical acclaim. The game was developed by the Spanish studio MercurySteam, also known for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid: Samus Returns. The plot of Metroid Dread takes place after the events of Metroid Fusion, making it the latest game in the series' chronology to date.

Further interest is sparked by the fact that back in 2023, MercurySteam announced it was working on two major unannounced projects. One of them later turned out to be the fantasy action game Blades of Fire, released last year. The second project has not yet been officially presented, so some fans speculate that Metroid Ravenous could be it.
