"I don't care": The next game from the creators of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 might not please fans - they don't want to please anyone
The developers understand that not all fans may appreciate the new project.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 became a big hit, receiving many positive reviews from players and awards. However, Sandfall Interactive studio is not going to build its next project around trying to repeat the success of its debut game.
Guillaume Broche, the game director of Expedition 33, shared in a recent interview that he doesn't particularly care how the community will react to the new game. He explained that when the team was developing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, they focused on themselves and did not strive to please anyone:
Honestly, I don't really care [about player reactions]. It might sound strange, but we didn't make our first game to please anyone. And I think that's why it worked [became successful].
With its next project, Guillaume Broche explains, Sandfall Interactive studio will adhere to a similar approach. The developer admits that this may lead to some fans of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 not liking the new game, but he is calm about it:
For our next game, we will also make quite radical decisions, and people might not like it. That's life. Whether people follow us or not is their choice. But that's how we see the future. And I think this is a healthy approach – we don't want to break under pressure. Of course, if we sell 0 copies, then we have problems. However, under normal circumstances, everything will be fine.
Broche did not disclose details of his next project.
