Cyberpunk 2077 surpasses 40 million copies sold
From a troubled launch to a true success.
CD Projekt Red announced that global sales of Cyberpunk 2077 have exceeded 40 million copies. This significant milestone was reached on July 3, 2026, more than five and a half years after the game's release in December 2020.
This figure includes both sales of the base version of Cyberpunk 2077 and copies sold as part of the Ultimate Edition, which includes the extensive Phantom Liberty expansion.
This success is particularly remarkable given the project's extremely troubled launch. After its release, Cyberpunk 2077 faced a large number of technical issues, leading Sony to temporarily remove the game from the PlayStation Store and begin processing refunds for buyers.
However, CD Projekt Red did not abandon support for the project. Over the subsequent years, the developers released numerous major updates, fixed the main technical problems, and significantly improved gameplay. Thanks to this, the studio managed to restore the game's reputation and regain player trust, ultimately leading Cyberpunk 2077 to a new commercial achievement.
