Employees of the Bombora publishing house announced the release of Nikita Entus's book "BioWare Chronicles. From the iconic series Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect to resounding failures." In some places, it is now available for purchase for 1249 rubles.
BioWare started in the nineties as a studio that could be loved unconditionally, but today its name is more often heard in news about layoffs and failed releases.
This book is an attempt to gather in one place the key moments in the development of all BioWare games and trace how the situation in the studio changed over 30 years. And also — to pay tribute to hundreds of people who spent their efforts and nerves creating projects that forever entered the history of the gaming industry and won the hearts of millions of players — from Baldur's Gate to Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Although the book does not contain detailed descriptions of game plots or universes, there are some spoilers: without them, the author would not have been able to tell about a number of key moments in the studio's history (for example, the scandal over the ending of Mass Effect 3).
Readers will learn how all the studio's key games were created, who was at the origins of BioWare and made creative decisions, how the break with Interplay and the transition under EA's wing changed the team's internal culture, what started the crunch culture, and why even the most famous franchises did not save BioWare from crises.
