It seems the success of "The Backrooms" has fueled Hollywood's interest in creepypasta adaptations.

Sony Pictures has begun development on a feature film about Cartoon Cat, an internet monster created by Canadian artist Trevor Henderson. The start of work on the adaptation was reported by Deadline. The screenwriter, director, cast, and premiere date have not yet been announced.

This is the second adaptation of Henderson's works launched in recent weeks. Previously, Warner Bros. acquired the rights to a film about Siren Head, a multi-meter humanoid with loudspeakers instead of a head. The horror script is being written by "The Weapons" director Zach Cregger and "Love and Monsters" author Brian Duffield, who is also set to direct.

The studios' interest in Henderson's work coincided with the box office success of "The Backrooms." The adaptation of the eponymous internet creepypasta, with a budget of less than $10 million, earned over $360 million worldwide. After this, Hollywood companies began to actively look at horror concepts from the Internet, considering them a way to attract a young online audience.
