Former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick revealed that he once considered former Xbox head Phil Spencer as his potential successor at the company.
According to Kotick, Spencer worked at Activision for some time and led one of the company's divisions. However, he soon received an offer to head Microsoft's gaming division.
I hired Phil to run one of our businesses. Then he called me and said he was offered to be the head of Xbox. I said, "Dude, take it." Of course, I wanted him to stay with us, but it was his dream job, so I told him to go.
The former head of Activision noted that he seriously saw Spencer as his future successor and considered him the right person to manage the company.
I was prepared to make him probably my successor. So during the deal, that was easy too — I knew the man well and thought he would be a great leader in the future.
