Work on the script for the second season of "Lanterns" has begun - insider
There's exactly one month left until the premiere of the first season of "Lanterns," but DC Studios and HBO seem to be already working ahead of schedule.
The Home of DCU channel, specializing in news and rumors about DC Studios projects, reported that the writers' room for the second season of "Lanterns" has already been formed and has begun work.
"According to my information, the writers' room for the second season of 'Lanterns' is fully formed, and script work has begun. As previously reported, Christopher Cantwell has joined the project as an executive producer alongside Chris Mundy."
It's curious that back in May, Cantwell, who has worked on Marvel and DC comics for many years, hinted at his involvement in the second season when the first rumors of his joining the project emerged. Nevertheless, the series has not yet received an official renewal.
Even if the information about the start of script work is confirmed, such a practice is not unusual for the industry. Studios often form a writers' room in advance to shorten the break between seasons, and the final decision on renewal is made after evaluating the results of the first season. By the same principle, screenwriter Jeremy Slater completed a draft script for "Mortal Kombat 3" last winter, although Warner Bros. has not yet officially confirmed the film's production.
The first season of "Lanterns" will tell the story of Green Lantern Corps veteran Hal Jordan and his new partner John Stewart. The heroes investigate a murder in rural America, which leads them to a larger conspiracy. Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre star, and Chris Mundy serves as showrunner. The first season consists of eight episodes and premieres on HBO and HBO Max on August 16, 2026.
