Kane Parsons is also being courted by competitors from other Hollywood studios.
According to Puck journalist Matthew Belloni, A24 studio offered 21-year-old Kane Parsons a three-year contract worth up to $65 million, under which it will receive the right of first refusal for the director's new films and series. The deal may include a sequel to "The Backrooms," on which Parsons is already working, as well as another original film. According to Belloni, this is the largest offer A24 has ever made to an individual director.
However, the agreement has not yet been signed. According to the journalist, Warner Bros., Universal, and Sony have also entered the bidding for "The Backrooms" creator. Although A24 is considered the favorite in negotiations due to its existing relationship with the director, Warner Bros. executives are serious – Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy reportedly flew to California personally to meet with Parsons.
Hollywood studios' interest is due to the commercial success of "The Backrooms." According to the latest available estimates, the horror film grossed approximately $374 million worldwide against a production budget of about $10 million. The theatrical release is still ongoing in some countries, although the film has already been released digitally.
