A new version of the Shader Injector 2.0 mod has been released for the remake

A new version of the Shader Injector 2.0 mod has been released for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which significantly transforms the game's visuals. According to the project's author, David Matos, the main goal was to fix the flat lighting used by Square Enix in the PC version.

The mod reworks lighting and a number of graphical effects, making the picture more volumetric and natural. At the same time, Shader Injector 2.0 practically does not affect performance and is easy to install. Many users are already comparing the result to a full-fledged official remaster of the game.

The developer himself admitted that version 2.0 embodied most of his ideas, so at the moment he does not plan major updates. According to him, this release may become the final version of the modification.

However, the master is not going to completely stop the development of the project. He is considering the possibility of implementing support for custom render passes, which will significantly reduce the system load from already implemented effects and at the same time open the way for more extensive graphical improvements.

Among the potential innovations, the modder named a fully procedural sky with dynamic volumetric clouds, as well as more advanced global illumination systems that will surpass existing screen-space methods. According to the author, the sky can be replaced now, but such a solution is still too demanding on performance and does not provide the desired image quality.
