PS5 emulator already runs Demon's Souls remake

However, SharpEmu cannot yet go beyond character creation.

The development of the PlayStation 5 emulator SharpEmu continues to progress rapidly. As a new demonstration showed, the project is already capable of running Demon's Souls Remake and reaching the character creation screen — an important step towards full emulation of the game on PC.

The progress was reported by the author of the YouTube channel BrutalSam, who published a video showing the emulator in action. At first glance, the achievement may seem insignificant, but for emulator developers, this is considered a serious step. The ability to load and enter the character editor means that fundamental mechanisms are starting to work correctly, paving the way for further gameplay.

In addition to Demon's Souls Remake, developers are testing the emulator with other projects, including Dreaming Sarah, Void Terrarium, and Dead Cells. Traditionally, 2D games are easier to emulate, so Dead Cells may become one of the first fully functional games. Nevertheless, the community's main attention is focused on the Demon's Souls remake, which still remains a PlayStation 5 exclusive and is officially unavailable on PC.

Despite rapid progress, full launch of PlayStation 5 exclusives on computers is still far off. Currently, SharpEmu can load the eboot.bin file of original games, execute native processor instructions, and partially process system kernel functions. However, developers still need to implement several critically important components, without which full emulation of modern games is not yet possible.
