Grand Theft Auto VI Download Codes Will Only Be Valid for 170 Days in Japan

This only applies to the PlayStation 5 version.

Buyers of Grand Theft Auto VI in Japan will face an unusual restriction: digital download codes for the boxed PlayStation 5 version of the game will only be valid for 170 days from release, after which they will become invalid.

The information appeared on Rockstar's official support page dedicated to GTA VI, which describes the available platforms, versions, and editions of the game. It also states that pre-loading of the project will be available on November 12, a week before the release on November 19.

The restriction applies exclusively to Japanese versions of GTA VI for PS5 and is related to local regulations. Xbox owners will not be affected: digital codes for Microsoft consoles are not region-locked and are not subject to similar requirements. According to Rockstar, Japan remains the only region where game codes will have such a short validity period.
