The legendary fire demon from the depths of Moria will be voiced by a "Star Trek" star.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Prime Video revealed new details about the third season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." In particular, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay prepared an unexpected surprise: for the first time in the history of Tolkien's screen adaptations, the Balrog will have a voice. The ancient fire demon will be voiced by famous British actor Simon Pegg ("Star Trek").

In addition to Simon Pegg, several other well-known actors have joined the cast for the third season. Eddie Marsan ("The Gentlemen") will play the dwarf Thráin – a member of the royal line and older brother of Durin IV. Andrew Richardson will portray Anárion – Elendil's younger son and Isildur's brother, who is destined to become King of Gondor. Zubin Varla will play Khamûl the Easterling – one of the nine human lords who fell under Sauron's sway and became Nazgûl. Adam Young will play an original character named Marnuk – a mysterious Orc who is "not what he seems."

Also, during the presentation, Jamie Campbell Bower ("Stranger Things") was confirmed to participate as the Elven lord Celeborn – Galadriel's long-lost husband.

The premiere of the third season of "The Rings of Power" on the Prime Video streaming service is scheduled for November 11, 2026.
