Hulu Greenlights Three Extended "Futurama" Specials

The first of the three specials will be a Christmas adventure for the Planet Express crew.

Streaming service Hulu continues to expand the "Futurama" universe. At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, platform representatives announced that three extended special episodes are already in production.

The creators describe them as XXXL-format episodes. Details of two of the specials are being kept under wraps, but it is already known that the first special episode will be Christmas-themed and will be released in 2027.

The original team, led by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, is working on the new stories. Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz serve as executive producers, with 20th Television Animation handling production and Rough Draft Studios providing animation.

Before the specials are released, viewers can look forward to the 14th season of the animated series. It premieres on August 3rd on Hulu and Disney+ with two episodes, after which new episodes will be released on Mondays.
