Ubisoft has launched the development of a new game in the Far Cry universe, codenamed Kodiak
Sources call Kodiak a "very ambitious" project, but its release is still several years away.
Ubisoft has begun full-scale development of a new game in the Far Cry universe, internally codenamed Kodiak. The project has already passed the conceptual preparation stage and is now in active development at Vantage Studios.
According to sources, Kodiak will be an open-world first-person shooter, with a primary focus on player interaction and creating their own game stories. The project's development began based on the groundwork of the canceled game Maverick, which was originally conceived as an extraction shooter. After Maverick's cancellation, Ubisoft decided to abandon this direction, at least within the Far Cry series.
Meanwhile, the development of Blackbird, the next main installment of Far Cry, continues. It is reported that the project has repeatedly faced internal delays and production difficulties, but development is now on track. In addition to the single-player campaign, the game will feature a multiplayer mode that will allow several players to explore the game world together.
In an internal interview at Vantage Studios, head Charlie Guillemot described Blackbird as a "truly impressive" project and called it "Act One." This may indicate that Ubisoft views Blackbird as a foundation for several future games in the series with a similar concept, should the new title be well-received by players.
