Morgan Spector to Play Robert Langdon in Netflix's Adaptation of Dan Brown's New Novel

The star of "The Gilded Age" will replace Tom Hanks in the series based on "Mystery of Mysteries."

Morgan Spector, known for the series "The Gilded Age" and "Black Rabbit," has officially been cast as Robert Langdon in the new Netflix series. The project will be an adaptation of Dan Brown's novel "Mystery of Mysteries" – the sixth book about the Harvard professor, but the final title of the series has not yet been confirmed.

Previously, Robert Langdon was portrayed on screen by Tom Hanks. The actor played the professor of symbology in the films "The Da Vinci Code," "Angels & Demons," and "Inferno," directed by Ron Howard. In the series "The Lost Symbol," a young Langdon was played by Ashley Zukerman.

Dan Brown serves as co-writer and executive producer of the project, and the lead female role, according to Deadline, may go to Rebecca Hall ("Film Studio"). Carlton Cuse, who worked on "Lost," "Bates Motel," and "Jack Ryan," will be the showrunner for the series. He explained the choice of Spector by his intelligence and humanity as an actor:

According to the plot, Langdon must save a missing scientist he loves and find her revolutionary manuscript. The discoveries contained within it are capable of changing humanity's understanding of the nature of the mind. The creators promise to combine futuristic science, mystical legends, and the signature puzzles of Brown's works.
