"Best Marvel Studios Film": First Reactions to "Spider-Man: A New Day" Emerge
Full reviews from critics and journalists will be released tomorrow, July 29.
After the world premiere of "Spider-Man: A New Day" in Los Angeles, the first reactions appeared on social media. Most journalists and invited guests praise the film for its emotional story, Destin Daniel Cretton's direction, and the acting of Tom Holland and Sadie Sink. However, some critics find the script overloaded and the narrative structure chaotic.
Joseph Deckelmeier called "A New Day" the best Spider-Man film and specifically noted the duo of Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal:
"Incredible action, real emotional stakes, and huge surprises. Peter and Frank steal every scene together. This is the main film of the summer! Tom Holland and Sadie Sink are magnificent."
Critic Zach Pope also highly praised the film. In his opinion, Holland delivered his best performance ever as Peter Parker, and the main discovery of the film was Sadie Sink:
"A tragic and poetic odyssey about what it means to feel alone and to realize that you don't have to be alone. Tom Holland delivers his best performance as Peter, but Sadie Sink somehow manages to steal the entire film."
Other journalists went even further in their assessments:
"Possibly the best Marvel Studios film ever. Stunning performances by Holland and Zendaya. If you thought the MCU died after 'Endgame,' think again. This is a true genre classic."
However, not everyone shared the enthusiasm. James Preston Poole believes that the strong story of Peter Parker is hampered by a script that focuses too much on connections to the MCU and numerous cameos. Caitlin Booth added that at times, "A New Day" feels more like preparation for the next project than a standalone story, although she generally rated the film positively:
"Spider-Man: A New Day" suffers from the same problem as many films after "Endgame": it feels like a stepping stone to the next project rather than a complete standalone film. However, this is far from the most egregious example. Peter and Frank make a great duo. The story and structure are chaotic, but the film is quite good."
Full critic reviews will appear on July 29. The world premiere of "Spider-Man: A New Day" will take place on July 31, and the film is expected in Russian cinemas from August 20.
