Will "Blade Runner 2099" Get a Second Season? Showrunner Clarifies the Series' Fate
Viewers will get a complete story that won't end abruptly.
The series "Blade Runner 2099" will not get a second season. Showrunner Silka Luisa confirmed that the creators had planned from the beginning to tell a complete story in eight episodes. Therefore, the decision is not related to ratings or audience reaction.
In an interview with Collider at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Luisa explained that the transition from feature films to a television format was a serious challenge for such a cinematic franchise:
"We always envisioned the project as a limited series. Moving from film to television is a huge step for a cinematic universe like 'Blade Runner.' So it was important for us to tell a story that felt like a movie: with a beginning, a middle, and an end."
The limited format was agreed upon in advance with Alcon Entertainment and the other producers. The scripts for all eight episodes were ready before filming began, so the story should not end abruptly or with a cliffhanger:
"We immediately agreed with Alcon and all the producers that we wanted to tell a complete story. Eight episodes seemed like the right length. Plus, eight is my lucky number, so I would have chosen it anyway."
The series will be set in Los Angeles in 2099. The plot will center on replicant Olwen, played by Michelle Yeoh, and her partner Cora, played by Hunter Schafer. Together, they will have to track down a group of out-of-control replicants.
The cast also includes Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Kaitlin Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Jonny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, and Matthew Needham.
All eight episodes of "Blade Runner 2099" will premiere on November 25, 2026, on Prime Video.
