EA CEO received almost $39 million for the year - 305 times more than the average employee
Andrew Wilson's compensation increased by approximately 27% - all amidst layoffs of Battlefield 6 developers.
Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson received compensation of $38,649,984 for the 2026 fiscal year, according to the company's annual 10-K report. The payout increased by approximately 27% compared to the previous year, when the executive earned $30.53 million.
The main part of the compensation consisted of $28.48 million in stock. In addition, Wilson received a base salary of $1.3 million, a cash bonus of $6.5 million, and $2.37 million in the “other compensation” category, which includes expenses for personal security and the use of a private jet.
According to EA's report, the bonus increase is directly related to the company's successful results. In particular, the publisher noted that Battlefield 6 met all key preparation milestones for a quality launch. The successes of EA Sports FC, Apex Legends, and other franchises, as well as the implementation of the company's new generative artificial intelligence strategy, also had a positive impact.
EA's business performance exceeded internal targets. The bonus pool was funded at 110% of the planned level, and adjusted net revenue reached $8.026 billion, exceeding the set target of $7.85 billion.
However, such large payouts to management raised questions amidst staff reductions. On March 9, 2026, Electronic Arts laid off employees from DICE, Criterion Games, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studio — these were the teams involved in the development of Battlefield 6. At the time, the company explained the decision by the need to “better focus teams on what matters most to the community”. The layoffs occurred several months after Battlefield 6 became the best-selling game in the US for 2025.
Other EA top managers also received high payouts. CFO Stuart Canfield earned $11.32 million compared to $9.12 million a year earlier, and company president Laura Miele received $13.71 million.
For comparison, the median annual compensation for an Electronic Arts employee in fiscal year 2026 was $126,612. Thus, Andrew Wilson's remuneration was approximately 305 times higher than that of the average company employee.
The growth in CEO payouts has been ongoing for several years. While Wilson received $19.86 million in fiscal year 2022, his compensation rose to $25.64 million in 2024, and has now approached the $39 million mark. During these years, EA has repeatedly restructured and reduced its staff.
