Tormented Souls to be adapted for the screen - horror game to get a film and TV series
Producers hope to turn the indie horror game into a major film franchise.
Deadline reports that ZQ Entertainment, Prime Universe Films (responsible for the Hitman film adaptations), and Longevity Pictures have acquired the exclusive rights to adapt the indie horror game Tormented Souls from Dual Effect studio. The project is planned to be developed in two formats simultaneously – as a feature film and as a television series.
The creators of the original game, brothers Gabriel and Herman Araneda Quijada, will serve as executive producers to preserve the spirit of the source material.
The original story follows Caroline Walker, who embarks on a search for two missing twin girls in the dark and decaying corridors of the abandoned Wildberger Hospital. There, the heroine encounters grotesque experiments, ancient evil, and otherworldly forces.
“The game creates a true sense of horror while telling a captivating emotional story. Our goal is to pay homage to everything fans loved about the original and give viewers a terrifying cinematic experience worthy of this franchise.”
Adrian Askarieh, head of Prime Universe Films, believes that Tormented Souls has great potential for franchise development:
“Tormented Souls is exactly the type of intellectual property we were looking for. The game has gone from an indie project to a project with a dedicated audience worldwide. We believe this is the beginning of a major horror franchise.”
The estimated release date and other details about the projects are not yet known.
