Frictional Games to Release Remastered Version of Cult Horror Game Amnesia: The Dark Descent
The studio is also working on its next major project - and it's not ONTOS.
Frictional Games has confirmed plans to release a remastered version of the cult horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent, first released in 2010, by the end of 2026.
The information appeared in the company's 2025 annual report. The document primarily focuses on the development of the sci-fi horror game ONTOS, which was announced at The Game Awards 2025. The studio noted that the game received a positive audience reaction, and its release is expected in early 2027.
In addition to ONTOS, the developers confirmed the existence of a remaster for Amnesia: The Dark Descent. For now, the project is only mentioned in one line: the release of the new version is scheduled for late 2026. The creators have not yet revealed any details about graphical improvements, new features, or the list of platforms.
Frictional Games also reported that a small part of the team is already preparing for the next major project, which has not yet been officially announced. The studio emphasized that its previous games continue to generate stable revenue through sales, agreements with platform holders, and regular discount promotions.
The original Amnesia: The Dark Descent debuted in September 2010 and became one of the most influential games in the psychological horror genre, laying the groundwork for many modern projects in this direction.
