First Previews of Gears of War: E-Day Emerge. Multiplayer Returns to the Spirit of the Classic Trilogy, But Isn't Afraid of New Ideas
The game will be released on October 6.
After a series of closed previews, journalists shared their first impressions of Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer. Judging by the reviews, The Coalition studio has focused on returning to the series' roots: classic PvP has conceptually remained almost unchanged, and the main innovation will be the large-scale cooperative Horde Siege mode.
Almost all publications agree that competitive multiplayer feels like a modern version of the first Gears of War games. The developers have preserved the signature dynamics with cover, active reloading, melee combat, and the high value of teamwork. At the same time, controls have become more responsive, and animations and movement are noticeably smoother thanks to the updated movement system. Reviewers note that the game deliberately does not try to turn into another fast-paced shooter, maintaining the tactical tempo for which the series was once loved.
At the same time, the developers have reworked individual gameplay elements. For example, instead of the famous "American football player" sprint, a regular sprint is used, which makes the controls more natural, but does not destroy the recognizable combat mechanics. According to journalists, weapons still have high recoil and weight, and firefights remain intense and require skillful use of cover.
The main innovation is the Horde Siege mode, which many journalists call the most ambitious development of Gears' cooperative component since the original Horde. Instead of the usual defense of one point, players unite into three squads of four people on a common map, complete various tasks, repel Locust attacks, extract resources, and evacuate if necessary. Matches last about 20 minutes, and you can join them even during the game.
Horde Siege features four classes – Assault, Marksman, Medic, and Breacher, each with their own abilities and ultimate skills. According to reviewers, the classes truly differ in playstyle and force the team to coordinate actions, rather than just shooting down waves of enemies. At the same time, both familiar enemies and completely new varieties of creatures appear on the battlefield.
