Capcom Shares New Details on Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Expansion

The developers also confirmed that the expansion will offer over 25 hours of new content.

Capcom has published a Q&A session dedicated to Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, in which game director Kento Kinoshita and producer Naoto Oyama shared new details about the massive expansion.

One of the main features will be the new region of Norghan, which players will be able to access early in the playthrough. Along with it, the storylines Lost Rites and Forsaken Dominion will appear. Despite early access to the content, the developers recommend tackling these quests only after reaching approximately levels 20 and 40, respectively.

The authors also confirmed that the expansion will not be limited to icy versions of familiar enemies. In addition to new variations of existing monsters, players can expect completely original enemies with unique models and animations. According to Naoto Oyama, entirely new character skeletons were created for them, so encounters with such creatures should be one of the main surprises of the expansion.

At the same time, the developers are deliberately avoiding spoilers. Kento Kinoshita noted that initially, the journey through Norghan will focus on a harsh icy theme, but as the story progresses, it will become significantly darker, fully justifying the subtitle Dark Arisen. Along with the change in atmosphere, the enemies will also change, although their details are still kept secret.

Among the new gameplay mechanics, the developers highlighted:

• the Relic Appraisal system, reminiscent of appraising rare finds from the Monster Hunter series
• an increase in the number of weapon skill sets from four to six
• 12 new original dungeons that will be integrated into the existing Dragon's Dogma 2 map
• Hard Mode, which will appear after the expansion's release in one of the subsequent updates

According to Kinoshita, the creation of Dark Arisen was largely possible thanks to community support. After the release of Dragon's Dogma 2 and a series of updates, the developers regularly received messages from players asking them not to stop the game's development. This fan enthusiasm became the main impetus for working on the expansion.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen will be released on October 9, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. According to Naoto Oyama, the Nintendo Switch 2 version is already showing results that exceed the team's expectations.
