Marvel is preparing its own answer to "The Boys" with Superman and Batman analogues - insider

The project will tell the story of the Squadron Supreme, whose members were created as analogues of the "Justice League" heroes.

Insider James Mac reported that Marvel Studios has begun developing a project about the Squadron Supreme. The team is planned to be introduced after the film "Avengers: Secret Wars", which will be released on December 17, 2027, and will conclude the sixth phase of the cinematic universe.

The Squadron Supreme first appeared in comic books in 1971 and was conceived as a version of the "Justice League" from a parallel universe. Hyperion became the analogue of Superman, Nighthawk – Batman, Doctor Spectrum – Green Lantern, Power Princess – Wonder Woman, and Whizzer – Flash. The original lineup also included Amphibian – an Aquaman analogue.

However, the Squadron Supreme cannot be called a simple parody of DC characters. In one of their most famous stories, the team seized power to eradicate crime, disease, and poverty. But the heroes' attempt to build a utopia went awry and led to the Squadron's split.

Therefore, in a modern context, the team can easily be compared to The Seven from "The Boys". Both groups reinterpret the archetypes of the "Justice League" and show what happens when people with immense power stop caring about society. However, the Squadron Supreme appeared 35 years before the first "The Boys" comic was released.

The format of the project and the estimated release dates are currently unknown. In the same publication, James Mac said that Marvel is developing two special issues with an eye on 2027: one will be dedicated to a single character, and the other to an entire team. According to other rumors, Mystique will be the heroine of the solo issue. Since the Squadron Supreme project is planned to be introduced only after "Secret Wars", it probably does not belong to these two special issues.

The rumor about the Squadron also provides a new perspective on reports that emerged in May. At that time, it was claimed that Marvel was considering Brad Pitt and Rebecca Ferguson for "very large" roles in the cinematic universe. Now fans speculate that the actors could play Hyperion and Power Princess, respectively. However, rumors about Pitt's possible appearance as Hyperion have been circulating for several years, but there is no direct connection between all these rumors yet.
