Pearl Abyss Reports Profit Decline After Crimson Desert Launch
Nevertheless, the game brought the company $96 million in the second fiscal quarter.
Pearl Abyss presented its financial results for the second quarter of 2026. The figures were noticeably weaker than the previous quarter — the initial effect of Crimson Desert's March release began to gradually wane.
Pearl Abyss's operating revenue was 192.6 billion won ($135.9 million), a 41.4% decrease quarter-over-quarter. Operating profit fell by 68.1% to 67.6 billion won ($47.7 million). Net profit decreased by 58.3% to 70.9 billion won ($50 million). For comparison, in the first quarter, the company's profit grew by 419.8% due to the start of Crimson Desert sales.
The results were below the previously set forecast. Pearl Abyss attributed the discrepancy to several factors, including differences in the distribution of Crimson Desert sales across distribution channels and regional pricing policies, delays between actual physical copy sales and revenue recognition, and the deferral of some revenue due to refund guarantees.
In the second quarter, Crimson Desert sold 2.11 million copies, generating 136.1 billion won ($96 million) in revenue for the company. Digital versions accounted for 82% of copies sold, while physical editions made up the remaining 18%.
The game also continues to define Pearl Abyss's revenue structure. Consoles accounted for 34% of the company's total revenue, and Crimson Desert itself provided about 70% of console revenue.
Regionally, North America and Europe led, accounting for 75% of revenue. Asia brought in 16%, and South Korea 9%. By platform, the distribution was as follows: PC — 61%, consoles — 34%, mobile devices — 5%.
