The Ankler reports that DC Studios and HBO Max have rejected proposals for series about Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Who came up with the ideas and how far their development progressed is unknown. It is also unclear whether the creators intended to connect the projects to James Gunn's cinematic universe or Gotham from Matt Reeves' "The Batman".
The information emerged shortly after the box office failure of "Supergirl". The film did not meet DC Studios' financial expectations, although co-head Peter Safran emphasized that one unsuccessful release would not make the studio change its chosen course:
"While 'Supergirl' did not meet our box office expectations, it is just one element of a larger, long-term strategy for DC Studios that we remain confident in."
The Ankler's sources do not link the results of "Supergirl" to the cancellation of the series. However, the decision on two projects with female protagonists, made shortly after the film's failure, may indicate a more cautious approach by the studio to such proposals.
The Ankler's report also casts doubt on the July rumor about a Poison Ivy series. At the time, journalist Jeff Sneider claimed that the project was being developed in Matt Reeves' universe, where "The Batman" and "The Penguin" have already been released.
Around the same time, Scarlett Johansson was rumored to be cast as Poison Ivy in "The Batman Part II". According to rumors, the film was supposed to introduce Pamela Isley before the launch of a separate series — following the example of Colin Farrell's Penguin.
