Viral Hello Neighbor Analog to Get a Movie - "Maleficent" Producer Takes on Scary Teacher Adaptation
The game about sneaking into a cruel teacher's house has garnered over 100 million downloads and billions of views on YouTube.
The viral mobile game Scary Teacher will get a full-length film adaptation. According to Deadline, the film is being developed by former Disney and 20th Century Fox executives Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum.
Scary Teacher tells the story of Miss T, a teacher who bullies and punishes students Nick and Tani. The heroes decide to fight back: they sneak into the teacher's house, bypass traps, play pranks, and gradually uncover the secrets hidden in the building.
Scary Teacher became a hit thanks to its mobile version and YouTube videos. The game has been installed over 100 million times on Google Play, and videos from the franchise on various channels have accumulated billions of views.
The screenplay for the adaptation will be written by Kory Todd Hughes and Adrian Specker. The authors want to preserve the tension and black humor of the original, but make Nick and Tani's story more emotional:
"Everyone remembers at least one teacher who made school unbearable. Scary Teacher will allow us to explore familiar fears in the format of an entertaining horror and tell a story about growing up, overcoming fear, and the courage to stand up for yourself."
The Scary Teacher adaptation is in the early stages of development. The director, cast, and release date have not yet been announced.
