Netflix continues to restructure its gaming division. The company announced the closure of two internal studios — Night School, known for the Oxenfree series, and Moonloot. Additionally, layoffs affected employees in Netflix's internal development teams, though the exact number of dismissals has not been disclosed by the company.

A Netflix representative, in a comment to Game File, explained the changes as an effort to focus the gaming direction on several priorities: projects for children, party games, narrative projects, and games with broader appeal.

We see an opportunity to be more focused in executing our plans, so we are making organizational changes to align with these priorities.

Night School Studio was founded 12 years ago and gained widespread recognition for Oxenfree — a supernatural adventure about teenagers released in 2016. In 2023, the developers released the sequel, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals. Among Night School's other projects is the adventure game Afterparty, in which two main characters find themselves in hell after death and try to outdrink Satan himself to get a chance to return to the world of the living.

Meanwhile, the studio's latest work was the mobile game Unhinged, released in June 2026. The project, among other things, features the voice of Sadie Sink, known for the series "Stranger Things" and the role of Gwen Stacy in the animated version of Spider-Man.

Moonloot appeared significantly later — the studio was founded in 2022. The team was working on a life simulation game in the style of Animal Crossing, but did not manage to release their game before the closure.
