It's Too Early to Write Off Discs: Resident Evil Requiem Proved Their Popularity
Sony's plans to completely abandon physical media by 2028 have sparked debate in the industry. Sales statistics for Resident Evil Requiem show that demand for discs is still high.
Although Capcom states that 90% of its game sales come from digital versions, the situation with Resident Evil Requiem is notably different. According to The Game Business journalist Christopher Dring, discs accounted for 22% of sales in the USA, 55% in France, and 51% in Japan.
In the UK, physical copies made up 40% of sales, and in Australia, 43%. Out of more than 7 million copies of the game sold, at least 2 million were physical versions.
Immediately after release, Resident Evil Requiem discs quickly disappeared from store shelves worldwide. This shows that interest in physical editions remains real.
