A decision may only be made next year.

Sony has not yet decided on the release date and cost of the next PlayStation 6 console. Amid rising component prices, uncertainty surrounding the new generation of gaming systems is growing, and plans to launch the PS6 by the end of 2027 no longer seem guaranteed.

Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki stated in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal that the PlayStation 6 release date, and consequently its price, have not yet been determined. According to available information, the final decision may only be made early next year – directly before the start of console production.

At the same time, Totoki made a number of broader statements about the future of Sony's business. According to him, the company should gradually change the traditional model, in which hardware and electronics play a central role, and more actively develop the entertainment sector.

One of the key directions for the company will be the development of its own gaming intellectual properties. Sony intends to more actively transform game franchises into films and TV series, creating a kind of "flywheel" that will allow the same intellectual property to work in several industries at once.

In addition, the company is considering closer integration of games and anime. Totoki believes these areas are naturally close to each other and sees additional growth opportunities in their combination.

The head of Sony emphasized that such changes are critical for the company. According to him, the main task of a leader is to ensure the survival of the business, and current conditions require specific actions from Sony.
