Henry Cavill May Return as Wolverine in New "X-Men" - Rumor
The actor has already appeared as one of Wolverine's variants in the third "Deadpool" movie.
A rumor has spread on social media about Henry Cavill possibly joining the new "X-Men." The Craze Cave account, which has not yet established itself as a reliable source of insider information, claims that the actor is in the final stages of negotiations with Marvel Studios for a multi-picture contract and is expected to play one of the key mutants.
The source did not name a specific character, but fans speculate that it is Wolverine. Cavill has already portrayed Logan in the movie "Deadpool & Wolverine," where he appeared as one of the character's alternate variants.
Moreover, discussions about the actor's possible return to this role emerged after the film's release in 2024. Cosmic Book News editor-in-chief Matt McGloin, citing his own sources, reported that Cavill had discussed with Marvel the possibility of permanently playing Wolverine in the MCU, and one of the issues in the negotiations was the size of his fee. Later, blogger John Campea and other sources spoke about meetings between the actor's representatives and the studio.
However, more reliable insiders and major Hollywood publications have not reported on Cavill's negotiations with Marvel recently. At D23, the studio only presented part of the cast for the new "X-Men": the actors for Cyclops, Jean Grey, Professor X, Storm, Rogue, Emma Frost, and Mister Sinister have already been announced.
Wolverine is not among the announced characters yet, but Kevin Feige explicitly warned that Marvel has not yet revealed the entire cast of the film. Given Logan's place in the history of the "X-Men," the character may well be introduced later – with Cavill in the role or with another actor.
The new "X-Men" will be directed by "Thunderbolts" director Jake Schreier. The film is scheduled to premiere on May 5, 2028.
