Warner Bros. Canceled Marauders Series for "Harry Potter" Reboot - Media
The creators had already written three episodes and were preparing to cast actors.
Knight Edge Media, citing its own sources, reported that before the "Harry Potter" reboot, Warner Bros. was developing a live-action series for HBO Max about the Marauders – James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew.
The spin-off was supposed to take place in the 1970s and cover the Marauders' school years, the creation of the famous map, the confrontation with Voldemort and the Death Eaters during the First Wizarding War, and then the heroes' joining the Order of the Phoenix.
At the time of cancellation, the first season was in an advanced stage of development. Warner Bros. had assembled a writers' room, the creators had prepared a series bible and written three episodes, after which they were going to move on to pre-production and casting.
According to Knight Edge Media, the project was ordered to be shut down by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. The company decided to re-adapt all seven "Harry Potter" books instead of the spin-off. Some screenwriters allegedly learned about the series' cancellation only after the public announcement of the reboot in 2023.
So far, neither Warner Bros. nor HBO have officially confirmed or commented on this information.
The first season of the new "Harry Potter" adaptation will consist of eight episodes and will bring the events of "Philosopher's Stone" to the screen. The premiere will take place on December 25, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max.
