The series "Lanterns" showed the best start among all DC Studios projects released on HBO Max. In the first three days, the premiere episode attracted 9.3 million viewers on HBO and the streaming service. For comparison, the series "The Penguin" in 2024 garnered 10.4 million views in 11 days after its release.
This result placed "Lanterns" in fourth place among the largest premieres of new series in HBO Max's history. Only the first season of "House of the Dragon," "The Last of Us," and "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," which in January 2026 gathered 6.7 million viewers in its first three days, are higher.
The plot tells the story of rookie Green Lantern Corps member John Stewart and experienced Hal Jordan. The space police investigate a murder in rural America and uncover a conspiracy whose consequences extend far beyond Earth. The main roles are played by Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler.
The first season consists of eight episodes. HBO has not yet renewed "Lanterns," although showrunner Chris Mundy and writer Christopher Cantwell have been working on a continuation for about six weeks.
