Just like in real life: GTA VI characters can let themselves go, becoming tired and fat if they don't take care of themselves
Journalists have learned new details about the upcoming Rockstar game.
Dazed magazine has published a large preview of Grand Theft Auto VI, revealing new details about the game's world, main characters, and some gameplay mechanics.
One notable innovation will be more detailed systems related to Jason and Lucia's physical condition. Their weight will depend on their diet, and regular workouts will visually change the characters' physiques. Their appearance will also be affected by lack of sleep if the player goes without rest for too long.
Similar mechanics have already been used by Rockstar Games. In Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur Morgan's weight changed depending on his diet, and an even more developed system existed in GTA: San Andreas, where CJ could gain and lose weight through food and exercise.
The system for switching between characters will also change. Unlike GTA V, where characters existed almost independently of each other, Jason and Lucia will be able to act together or separately. As an example, Dazed cites a highway drive: the player can control Jason behind the wheel, then switch to Lucia, sitting next to him, to do her own thing, such as browsing her in-game phone.
To create such a massive world, Rockstar has significantly expanded its team. According to Dazed, the company's staff has more than doubled since the development of Red Dead Redemption 2. There's even a separate office in Los Angeles dedicated to the characters inhabiting the open world.
Rockstar has also enlisted over 50 real street artists to create graffiti and murals in the in-game version of the Wynwood district – one of Miami's main art locations. A separate team, including professional race car drivers, is responsible for vehicle physics.
And, of course, there will be plenty of Florida flavor. In GTA VI, players will encounter many virtual incarnations of the so-called "Florida Man" – an internet meme about strange and often absurd criminals and offenders who regularly appear in American news.
Rockstar has paid special attention to music. Senior Vice President of Narrative Rupert Humphries said that the developers were particularly interested in Miami's music culture – from classic Miami bass to modern artists like Kodak Black and Sexyy Red. Various social environments became an important part of this culture for the game: from house parties in Overtown and clubs like Booby Trap on the River to elite establishments in South Beach, where bottle prices can reach several thousand dollars.
Dazed also confirmed some details of the main characters' biographies. Jason has a military background and is involved in drug trafficking, while Lucia is an aspiring fighter recently released from prison. Their relationship will be one of the central themes of the story.
At the same time, the player's decisions will apparently affect not only the events taking place but also directly the relationship between Jason and Lucia. Dazed claims that the consequences of the player's behavior for their bond will be significantly deeper than the honor and relationship systems in previous Rockstar games.
