"Spider-Man: No Way Home" Surpasses "Avengers: Endgame" in North America

Tom Holland's new solo film needs about $70 million more to reach the absolute record.

"Spider-Man: No Way Home" has become the second highest-grossing film in North American box office history. As of August 28, the blockbuster has earned approximately $866.5 million in the US and Canada, surpassing "Avengers: Endgame" with $858.3 million.

Now, only "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" with $936.7 million remains ahead – for an absolute record, the film needs to collect about $70.2 million more.

Chances to close the gap remain. "No Way Home" continues to play in theaters, and for its fifth weekend, it is projected to earn between $18 million and $25 million and another first place at the box office. The long holiday weekend for Labor Day in the US could give the film an additional boost.

Meanwhile, the worldwide gross of "No Way Home" has reached $2.23 billion. The film has already surpassed "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and is approaching the top five highest-grossing films in history. It is separated from "Titanic," which earned about $2.26 billion including re-releases, by just over $30 million.
