The Witcher 3 Remaster is Being Developed by a Fan Modding Studio

News

In August, CD Projekt RED not only showcased a story expansion but also announced the remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It is already known that a well-known modder in The Witcher community, HalkHogan, is working on the project – he released graphical modifications that significantly improved the quality of the visuals.

In a recent interview with Game Developer, one of CD Projekt RED's directors, Michal Nowakowski, spoke about another collaboration. The team is cooperating with the Hungarian studio Geeksoft. Its employees possess knowledge of the REDEngine, which powers The Witcher 3. The studio employs authors of modifications, fans of The Witcher.

Initially, CD Projekt RED hired Geeksoft to work on tools for creating modifications for games running on the REDEngine. Subsequently, the team decided to involve them in the work on The Witcher 3 remaster as well.

Nowakowski explained that although Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt use REDEngine, they have different versions of the engine. They differ, and therefore returning to the old one can be a challenging task – this is where Geeksoft comes in.

The release of The Witcher 3 remaster is expected on September 29, 2026.
