Full-length Anime "Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames" Released on Netflix - With New Scenes and Characters

The iconic arc of the original series has been completely re-imagined for the big screen.

The full-length anime "Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames" has been released on Netflix. In honor of the streaming premiere, the service also published a new clip from the film featuring Gintoki and his friends.

The film re-adapts the "Yoshiwara in Flames" arc, which was previously adapted in episodes 139-146 of the original series. For the full-length version, the creators completely reworked the animation for a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1, and also added new scenes and characters that were absent from the television adaptation.

According to the plot, Gintoki and his friends go to the hidden red-light district of Yoshiwara, where they help a boy named Seita find his missing mother. The search leads the heroes to a confrontation with Hosen, a powerful representative of the Yato race who keeps the district and its inhabitants under his control.

The film was produced by BN Pictures. Naoya Ando ("Paradox Live") directed, Taku Kishimoto ("Blue Lock") wrote the screenplay, and Yoichi Fujita, the main director of the television "Gintama," took on overall project supervision.

The Japanese premiere of "Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames" took place on February 13, 2026. The original anime series has 367 episodes, and the main story concluded with the full-length film "Gintama: The Final," released in 2021.
