The Disney+ adaptation had been in development for almost three years.

Disney+ has abandoned the live-action series based on "Gargoyles." The cancellation of the project was confirmed by one of the creators of the original animated series, Greg Weisman:

"Atomic Monster had a license to develop a live-action series based on 'Gargoyles' for Disney+, and now that project is dead. I don't know anything about animation, but there are no plans for a new live-action adaptation right now."

The series' development became known in October 2023. Gary Dauberman, screenwriter of "Annabelle Comes Home" and "The Nun," was set to write the script, serve as showrunner, and executive producer. James Wan and Michael Clear oversaw the project on behalf of Atomic Monster. Now, the franchise seems to be shelved once again.

The original animated series "Gargoyles" aired from 1994 to 1997 and told the story of ancient stone warriors who awakened in modern New York and began to protect the city at night.
